Before WU -> delete "c:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log" & "c:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CbsPersist_date&time_here.log". Run WU. After WU error checkout CBS.log to identify the issue.
A manually entered Name works, it gets updated immediately in the file explorer.
My goal is to include the system variable so that when the computer name changes, the name in the Explorer view updates automatically.
You can find instructions when googling for "GPO rename This PC" like this one...
„I have already applied @=%COMPUTERNAME% across different HKLM/HKU/... CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}
paths, yet it appears to have no effect on Windows 11.
I like to rename "This PC" not the whole computer name. But "This PC" should be automatically named based on the current computer name preferable in the .Default user hive so that it will apply to anyone who logs into this computer.
I'm looking for a solution for Window 11 to integrate something that will dynamically rename/update the string "This PC" found in the Windows Explorer of if un-hided on the Windows Desktop, based on the actual real %HOSTNAME% .
Everything I’ve found so far hasn’t worked, like...
Same here using a untouched 24H2 us-en MDSN ISO. (April 2025 v.3775)
- Adding 2 LP's via NTLite (no preset) - Apply -> OK
- Reload to add LCU - Apply -> Throw the Component store error.
Yes, from a loaded image. So far i couldn't find an option for this in NTlite. I was looking in the registry section - there are options to import/export power plan(s), but nothing for the separation between Plugged in / On battery
By default in Windows 11, both items (Plugged in / On battery) under the "Power Mode" settings are set to "Balanced".
How can i set in NTLite "Best Performance" for item when "Plugged in"?
I also create MUI 24H2 media but via a different way and i don't have issues. I always use the latest ISO from MSDN. Roughly how i do it:
1. Get FR-MSDN ISO
2. Extract ISO - load in NTLite - apply preset - keep ENT - save as ISO
3. Install ISO in VMware (offline) - boot into Audit mode - add...
I also get Error 5 when Widgets set to disable. NTLite v2024.8.10045
Tested on ISO - 26100.1742 & 22631.3737
I've using Widgets/Disabled in the preset since W11 was released and never had any error.
Is this a NTLite issue?
I suspect the problem also affects the other "Folder - ...." settings.
EDIT:
...just went through the changelogs and found this:
June 7, 2022 changelog for v.2.3.6.8775
FIX: Settings: Removed non-Policy options for the Start folders settings as they are not working if unforced
No, no I do not touch this setting after Windows installation.
All my test were done in an offline VM.
In the latest NTLite you have 3 options Enabled (Policy), Disabled (Policy) and Default (User)
In the old NTLite i might remember there was just Enabled, Disabled & Default. (can't verify that...
There is a preset conversion bug from version 2.3.2.8526 to 2.3.7.8826
I used the setting:
<TweakGroup name="StartTweaks">
<Tweak name="Start\AllowPinnedFolderSettings">3</Tweak>
</TweakGroup>
That tweak forced the settings icon to show up on the Start Menu (Windows 11)
After...
