Is it possible to prevent creation of windows recovery drive on 24H2 install in NTL if not keeping Windows Backup and restore ?

By deleting the Winre components (and with the old setup) I did not have recovery drive created

Legacy Setup doesn't care if you don't assign a Recovery partition, and won't force its creation if you have WinRE in the image. But the newer Setup will halt in WinPE, because it has logic to check for it.

With only the old setup, we had the Recovery partition created (when we tested it last year)
Or if the partitions are created with unatended, there will be no Recovery partition (still with the old setup, never tested with the new one, too many problems)
And, we might as well delete the System32\Recovery\winre.wim file (via the component) in the image if we don't want/use this

Could be accomplished - maybe Nuhi have to look into this regarding the new setup for 24H2.
Components is locked for setup and deployment for now.

Recovery Agent must be kept for installation (can be removed in Live)
Windows Recovery is required with the "new setup", and nuhi wanted to leave it with Windows Setup compatibility
We had considered "skipping" compatibility if the legacy boot option was used, but some do it manually (or other method) so he preferred to leave it as is

So the compatibility is unchecked (there are no protected files other than the components linked to this compatibility, so no problem

And we completely forgot to talk about it again

So it sounds like you should reopen the dialogue.
Thanks for the explanation even though it doesn't solve the problem with the auto-generated recovery partition.
Don't get me wrong - I can easily delete the auto-generated RE partition again and expand my C\: drive.

Partition created at installation ?
Weird, I don't have this partition created with the Windows Recovery component deleted (without unatended configuration disk, etc...)

Weird, just after 24h2 install (Windows recovery deleted and old setup)

Try do that with new setup - whitch is actually the culprit.
I'm looking foreward to the answer with the new setup introduced in 24H2.

New/Modern setup is using winre to deploy Windows, so it cannot be skipped.

Regarding the only known option, enable this, if that alone does not prevent auto-creation, there is Windows Recovery option in Settings to disable and you can remove it by disabling Setup Compatibility.
But only if legacy setup is enabled in the first link.
Will make this choice more streamlined if the legacy option is here to stay after 25H2.

Ah yes, with new setup, partition is created (when we tested)
And I believe we can't delete this component with new setup, otherwise there's an error, but tested 1 year ago, not sure
