Windows 11

Smart App Control is only found in build 22567. There's no timeline for when it shows up in stable.
 
It seems to me microsoft is just trying to cover for people who have no idea what they are downloading or using kind of like mac users.... so every day they add more and more stuff to make things go more smooth for average users but killing performance for their professional users. And I think its only going to be worse since they already know that we know this. and think like "oh however we have ltsc anyways for others".... but even normal users will complain about too many prompts and security checks and how things get slower and slower over time just like they failed on vista.

Additional new MDM and group policies for IT administrators​

We are introducing new policies so that IT administrators can simplify their Windows 11 experience across Start, taskbar, and the system tray. The following policies are available today:
  • Disable Quick Settings flyout
  • Disable Notification Center and calendar flyouts
  • Disable all taskbar settings
  • Disable search (across Start & taskbar)
  • Hide Task View from taskbar
  • Block customization of ‘Pinned’ in Start
  • Hide ‘Recommended’ in Start
  • Disable Start context menus
  • Hide ‘All apps’ in Start
 
All apps is usefull but I hope "hiding recommended" section doesn't leave there all blank and lets us use the whole thing as taskbar.... actually saw screenshots about this before but couldn't be sure... will test

result: made the change as both from user and computer... and not removed....

That's a long-waited feature to have, hope this'd be implemented in future NTL build too.

yes, I've seen that in your earlier post.
I don't use Beta/Insider build, maybe someone else here who uses beta/IP build can confirm and add something in this regard.
 
Confirmed. Build 22610's Remove Recommended from Start Menu, & Remove All Programs list from Start Menu do nothing.
In fact, Remove All Programs doesn't even create a new policy reg key.

The policy templates exist, but that's about it.
 
I was thinking, what if the features weren't enabled because we didn't identify as Insiders?

Reviewing mach2's latest features list, 22610 introduced the controls:

Used mach2 (or vivetool) to enable them, and rebooted. It looks exactly the same :confused:.
Read the policy template again, I missed the part which says Remove Recommended is for W11 SE (Cloud for EDU).

Guess it's not what we wanted.
 
Yup Its probably for SE only. Maybe someone can port this as a 3rd party dll etc...
 
yeah its nice but since windows11, I stopped using 3rdparty apps... I only use one and some reg tweaks to remove dublicate folder in this pc.... I won't modify my system files to remove recommended section... its ok with minimal option for now maybe we will get a reg entry in the future.

On another note, in the latest OneDrive Preview version 22.89.426.3, even I turn off/uncheck this option from Office TAB
'Use office application to SYNC office file that I open'

Every time I reboot my PC or restart the Onedrive app, the option is getting checked/on by default, not respecting the user's choice.

Any way to turn this off via registry or GP
 
You can try to capture reg changes via "RegFromApp" then add it to windows startup as task.
 
This is a group policy setting, not a reg key managed by OneDrive client. The policy template files are included in your client's AppData folder, follow the instructions and copy them to Windows\PolicyDefinitions. Run the Group Policy Editor.

Or simply load the quoted reg key. It's the same thing.
Registry entries for group policies are NEVER pre-defined in Windows. You have to enable them in Policy Editor, or use a matching reg key.
