The UI design of 2026.06.11200

Let's talk about it, because to me the lower one is better, you did not hover the component to see the same info.

So I see one issue with the new one, the auto-sizing of the names should be wider, it cut some names.

I presume you prefer all those descriptions and locks listed all at once? It can be surfaced as an option if actually necessary.

i think it would be better tho, description kinda of helps you understand what you're removing

To be honest, I prefer the old way too. Hiding the notes and extra info and having to hover over items to revel them is somewhat counterproductive as it requires additional hand motions to see something that is normally out there, in the clear.

Size is the least important bit of info, I think, notes and extra info are more useful, so the size column is better at the end, as it was before.

So yeah, I'd prefer the old way where the info is all visible, no hiding stuff. The space is there, we're not gaining anything by hiding the notes and extra info. Now, there is huge empty space that really serves no purpose. I prefer clearly visible information over empty space :)

Also, having the columns resizable, and having the app remember the column width would be useful, IMHO. I think they stopped being resizable at some point, I may be wrong though.

Thank you Nuhi for your consideration!

Descriptions are not gone, just hover the component. No point in listing all of them at once, like wall of text.

OK, will add the option. Thanks.

I'm an old school nerd so I like a wall of text  NTLite is a fairly hard core nerd tool and there is no reason to make it look trendy. There is no reason to coddle us like this, we ain't afraid of wall of text :p

So yeah, I dislike the modern UX/UI trends of hiding information under hover or under hamburger menus and low information density.

Nuhi and I had discussed it, and I also agreed that since there's space, we might as well use it

I am not a reader, i prefer stuff visual and/or audio.
I have always found it easier to play around with whatever ntlite new version is availible at the time. Each to their own.

I didnt get w7 x64 installed at 1.26(1.32-1.36)GB by constantly asking questions(i admit i more than likely did ask some) because its wayyy quicker to try something than wait around for an answer, do the build - test - install and you get an answer within an hour.
NTLite test builds and DM's with nuhi helped a lot :D

I prefer to figure things out for myself too (though at times it just makes more sense to ask for light than to keep poking around in the dark). That's why I think having all that information clearly visible all the time is useful, as opposed to having to hover over items every time you want to see the notes or the extra info. These often have very useful information that you might miss if they're hidden.

I see that there are tooltips when I hover over them. With so many options, if I want to know all the features, I'd have to hover over each one to read the tooltip. If there are too many, wouldn't I forget them? If space really needs to be saved, you could add a column, like in Task Manager, where users can choose which content to display.

Yes, the new UI hides the dependencies, but they appear when you hover the mouse over the components.
There will be a choice between hover-based display and permanent display.

Dont like hover based info, prefer an Explorer "choose columns" option per page(in the toolbar rather than 1 universal setting in "Settings".
Option to save Page view settings in settings.xml possible?

Option in the toolbar and settings saved for Components page
If nothing has changed in the meantime

Oo heck, UI is a bit different to when i last used it, not a fan of moden UI's to be honest.
If its going to stay then im just gonna have to get used to it is all :/

What makes it worse is that some components don't have any extra info and you don't know that until you to try hover over them. So, it's frustrating and wastes time as you try to hover over something and nothing happens and you don't know if this is a UI hiccup or there simply no info available for this item. It's much faster when all the info is simply visible as it was before.

Definitely counterproductive and a step backwards in usability.

"Modern UIs" are meant to coddle the average user by lowering the amount of options and information on the screen, to not overwhelm them with options, by making it "pleasant" instead of "functional". This results in options and information being hidden in various ways that require additional clicks to uncover, making the UX slower and frustrating for those who need the extra options.

I haven't seen a "modernized" app yet that hasn't lost its functionality. "Modern UI" is the perfect example of style over function.

but they appear when you hover the mouse over the components.
But why? What is being gained by hiding frequently used information and replacing it with giant empty space? What is the point? It requires additional effort and gives nothing in return.

OK, please tell me what do you glance at when it's shown all at once, and how easy is that to be able to focus which text on the right belongs to which component?
To explain why I'm asking:
- descriptions, you read them once when getting to know the component, no way that it's better to show all instead of just on hover. Hover is also easier to read as you know exactly which component it is for and better formatted, not one big line.
- locks/compatibilities, same thing, also if the compatibilities are the only reason, then we can talk about them, not components.
Meaning the Compatibility window should be expanded and compatibilities get their Hover with component list in them, for example.

Do let me know what bothers you. But let's not repeat what was said in this topic, I already agreed to add the option to return the wall of text.
