TairikuOkami Your Windows Tweaks(full version) file, what w10 build was it built on, has it been updated for build 1809?
Does it run with a menu or the whole thing just runs?

I ran it on ltsc which is already tweaked, bareboned services and it reduces ram usage from 10% to 8%(small but significant, it breaks a few things) and there is also a massive gain in the number of Handles in use, 14xxx(my work alone) down to 9664

I am going to go through it thoroughly and find how you get those gains.

I realized that NTLite works better in conventional editions (Professional, Enterprise...) than in LTSC. Some things it does not remove in LTSC (Windows Mail, some folders in Explorer, some group policies like OneDrive etc). And it removes better causing less problems in version 1803 so at the moment I'm testing this version

Around 29000 handles on a standard default ltsc install, i get that down to 15000 to 13000(once the system settles) on my own, his file takes it down to 9664(varies up to 10xxx). That is a massive gain that cant be ignored, to half then to 2/3rds. Thats not to be sniffed at with 4c/4t or 2c/4t, thats 8th gen i3 and pentium territory. 2c/2t 4gb to 4c/4t 8gb is laptop country.

Been using ccleaner with winapp2 file file to check on caching and logging, looks like i got most of it and the little thats left may just be the minimum files created.

If i go back to 8.1 there are no 8.1 igpu drivers for coffee lake or AM4 apus, 2x00G and 3x00G and im tired of the work needed to keep older os's working on new hardware.

If you buy a brand new, current year model(not new unopened old stock), oem dell hp etc you dont stand a chance of installing 7 or 8.1 because they are locking you down to w10 deep in the mainboards guts. Your only option is w10 in a highly tweaked state and maybe ltsc if you are lucky or Linux.

Might just be the minimum files needed.

His file is just under 3000 lines, ive got a lot to sift through and i am going to have to test his stuff one section at a time.

Remember mine is an airgapped pc with no networking and bareboned services. A networked pc retaining greater functionality will have more handles than mine but you should still see some good gains.

Not suprised because disabling Search and Indexing gave a noticable gain.

Are you referring to cortana caching? Cortana cache can be the cache of the search in start menu or in the icon search since cortana and search app share resources but it is just a guess I do not know for sure.

I always disable indexing but SearchUI breaks search in the Settings App and from version 1803 onwards does not use much RAM. Windows Apps are now suspended when not in use you can identify by a green leaf icon next to it.

Anyway it is necessary to do tests to know if it makes a difference. You can not fully rely on Microsoft solutions. What annoying me about cortana is the dialogue in OOBE that has no way to deactivate. I would like to have in OOBE just typing the user name and password. In LTSC cortana is totally disabled and this does not happen the problem is in other editions.

Curiously 1803 version consumes less RAM than 1809 even while maintaining Store I must be doing something wrong.

Treat each build as a seperate os, they make look the same but they aint underneath. Learn to be happy with whatevr gains you find, compromise and flexibility is key.

I have found that removing Cortana significantly decreases the use of RAM and the number of handles. Suspending apps does not solve the problem of high resource usage in the Search app. Maybe SearchUI consumed more RAM in 1809 than in 1803 so that's why the largest use of RAM in 1809.

I'll try to get the same result in 1803 and 1809 to decide which build to use. If I can of course I prefer the 1809 which is newer and has the LTSC version with long support.

Check my pm and try it, ltsc is the best of a bad bunch and besides do you really want to go through hell and back every 6 months with home and pro? In my opinion you stand a better chance with ltsb/c because it doesnt change, its like 7 and 8.1, its features dont change and developers have a better chance tocatch up and keep up with it. You cant do that if it massively changes every 6 months. So far ltsc is a big improvement over B.

Yes but I do not care about updates, I could use 1803 without updates without any problem. The problem is the support of programs like chrome and other browsers that receive security updates constantly do not know if they would stop updating.

Chrome would keep updating daily for the next 5 years, probably in windows 10 TH1, chrome works in 7 so no worries.

Im not liting at the moment, that capture problem kiboshed my liting plans and tweaking is best done on a full default install. I will use one of my lite presets with a few additions.

Liting is the easy part beause my presets are what i remove anyway, minus a few things to make them suitable for everyone, i add a few extra things and full update cleanup and winsxs clearout.

Gone are the days of an os that is around 1gb installed or less, i could get xp 32bit between 700 and 500mb. My presets are very similar to my xp presets so if i can get between 5 and 6gb installed ive done ok, less than 5 then ive done good.

Modern windows bears no relation to xp

Without removing windowsupdate/winsxs I get around 5gb installed. Removing WU or both I get around 3gb. Although I don't care about updates the problem is if a program needs a newer version of .NET for example.

Performance wise here is what i am getting with my LTSC tweaks and 2 kludges, no removals.
HANDLES---->MAX-36314---MIN-10482
THREADS---->MAX-1378----MIN-282
PROCESSES-->MAX-109-----MIN-35
The highest numbers are post install, no tweaks/removals, windows doing its own thing.
The lowest numbers are after tweaks and kludges with the system idling.

TairikuOkami Your big windows tweaks file significantly reduces the number of svchost instances, how do you do that? Is it a specific tweak(ive gone through but can see anything) or is it because you tweaked so much stuff?

Every svchost is just another service or a bunch of services, once disabled, the related svchost does not run.
