Ok, this is bizzare. I built a version of W10 LTSC_21 for my Lenovo Carbon X-1 5th gen laptop and i’ve been setting it up for a day. The Win features all seem to work as I expect them to but the Lenovo software doesn’t appear to work at all. Any of it! Her’s a rundown:

(1) I installed 2 Lenovo power / Battery drivers (they’re different drivers - one was included in the build and one after installation) but neither show up in the Device Manager. Nor do they show up as addons to the Win Power settings. Or is there any UI that I could find. (and i’ve combed every setting) Other the ~ 200mb of added files I can't find anything in the normal Win power settings to suggest that any added Lenovo features. (These drivers are crucial because they allow you to set the charging range of the battery so you can safely leave it plugged in all the time.)

(2) Lenovo Hotkeys: (Installed after the OS install) These allow you to use the Fn + the F1 > F12 keys to control sound, screen brightness, etc. The software is working and I get all of the normal responses & visual clues except that the Brightness keys have no actual effect on screen brightness - which seems to be at 100%. Nor does Win Settings > Screen Brightness have any effect on screen brightness. Nor does Nightlight have any effect.

(3) Synaptics Touchpad: This worked great under Win 7. And it still works normally for one-finger cursor control. But 2-finger scrolling only kinda sorta works - and really poorly at that. I set sensitivity at Max but I have to paw at the pad 2 or 3 times to get it to move at all.

(As a test I booted the laptop into Linux (rescue disk) and the touchpad worked perfectly again)

All of the Lenovo drivers that I installed are the current ones listed on the Lenovo website for this version of the laptop. Now, admittedly, Lenovo software has never been that great and if this was 1 driver that was not working right i’d be posting to the Lenovo forum. But NONE of their software is working as expected - leaving the modified OS as a possible contributor to these problems.

I’ve posted my preset. Did I remove something that Lenovo needs to make this laptop work right?

Laptops can be pickier about removals than a desktop, because they have more total drivers that can malfunction. I'd first retry your image by deleting all the .inf removals from your preset to see if any are necessary, since manufacturers don't release drivers for items they expect to always be present in the operating system, which is why a default Windows or Linux install works, because the essential drivers the laptop needs are intact.

Other things, such as hotkeys and peripherals, can be negatively affected by uninstalling components related to infrared, keyboards, and USB, such as hwsupport_infrared and OSK (on-screen keyboard). Even things as simple as removed fonts can make software behave unexpectedly and crash.
