I've read sometimes it's recommended before you install Windows to disconnect from the internet. What do you guys do? I could pull the Wi-fi cord out of the wall to disconnect.

This wouldn't interfere with the custom installation disk I will be using will it?

It would interfere with the update check during installation, if this "option" is by default

I leave the connection but no update check, etc...

This recommendation is entirely based on a lack of user education, because normal users don't understand the different install steps and how to bypass them to get what they want.

1. Do you want to skip forced Windows Updates during install?
2. Do you want to skip the Microsoft Account requirement?
3. Do you want to skip having suggested apps pinned to the Start Menu?

If you have the right knowledge and use of NTLite or other tools, there's no reason to stay disconnected while Windows installs.

If you are on a laptop with only Wi-Fi connection, there is no online access during installation until you enter your PW for the Network after login.
On a PC with a cable for internet, you have the long end of the stick, to remove it during installation unless you need to use a MS Account.

Then you should be save - no internet before you logon to Wi-Fi after install - recommended to install updated (graphic) drivers before you logon to your Wi-Fi as MS Update tend to update outdated drivers for that after logon to you Wi-Fi.

When you have NTLite, you can disable WU driver updates so there are no surprises.

It's easy peasy - but unlesh you've a driver update tool most don't know how to update Chip and other stuff exept what wendor supposed - which often is outdated depending on the age of your HW and very often not even available in an updated version especially from AMD regarding graphics drivers on newer computers.
