For nuhi
I have the impression that the final install.wim file obtained with the new version of NTLite 11080 is no longer editable (as it always was previously) with 7zip. In fact, here's the response:Snap1.png

nuhi

Even with 11090 deleting any versions from the instal.wim does not produce compaction (the [deleted] files remain) which still cannot be resolved even by 7zip

Hi Clarensio,

7-zip is not the tool for that, image needs recompression, those are not normal files.

Do a recompress with NTLite:
Select image
Export
Destination: Recompress (leave destination the same)

It should have been done automatically on Apply.
How did you use NTLite apply process, was the image saved at the end or used something else to save changes to the image?

Tested it now, works as expected, no Deleted after, Auto-Export is not skipped.

Edit: also can happen if using remove editions manually (not during Apply) and not Recompressed after - will add a prompt to offer to user

7Zip has always been the tool for .wim files, so much so that the respective DLLs were natively included in NTLite.

The image saved at the end after I had batch-deleted versions I didn't always need from NTLite. As you can see from the screenshots, this left [deleted] which can no longer be deleted/optimized by 7Zip.

Again, this is bad, especially for any updates to be made to the original image.

PS: I'm not at all satisfied with this new feature... sorry but...

7-zip is not used for WIM operations. It might delete a file, and is an indespensible library for compressed files, but we are talking about [DELETED] that you asked.

This is unrelated to the 7-zip, put that aside. I explained above how you can see those files in the WIM. For example remove edition and do not Export/Recompress - with any tool or manually with DISM, all the same.

There were no changes that would influence this, it would be a new bug for which I would gladly take instructions how to see.

Thanks anyway and the spirit that motivates me is only and exclusively aimed at this splendid software

Bit confused, not sure if you gave up. Anyway, I am waiting for instructions how to see the issue, send you an email.
It's very important to know what worked before (same image, same 7-zip, same preset), vs now what changed.
Once I see the issue that is not there on older versions, it's good as solved and I am grateful.

Let me explain...I used to use the "recompress" option a lot, both to completely delete deleted versions and to reduce file size after operations.

Now it seems like this isolated "recompress" option is no longer there, but has been merged into Export/Destination --> Delete Traces of Versions... without mentioning recompression, or rather, just recompression...

Did I understand correctly?

If so, I just tried it and it works perfectly for deleting deleted versions.

Perhaps I just need to get used to these new modes/operations...

PS: always forgive my English...

Oh that's great, yes, the new version allows to chain operations, and I will gladly add Recompress option to the Remove editions window.

If you open old version it does not have those options, this is better than before - nothing was removed, only added.

edit: Export dialog and Apply process already have recompression built-in, always.

I'll send the test version to you, let me know if you see any need to do recompress after one action and there was no option to do so.
