GamerOS Windows 10 & 11 DIY Preset

Super stripping the os has very little affect on the system running. It just starts to break things and really in the long term not providing any benefit.

Just an honest opinion and no offense
You're mostly right though but it's not really about the most performance i'm after since 1200fps+ is really usefull it the latency in online fps, especially fortnite where input lag matters the most. You'll get more out of a good cpu/ram oc but the os nontheless manages your games and having it running 20 processes in the background sure impact on how quicky your game input is managed by your system. I can assure you i'm very sensitive to input lag and if you have ever played fortnite on a semi-pro level you would understand the intricacy of input lag and how much the outcomes differ with or without it.
Anyway , what you say is best advice for begginers and people than aren't ready to dig a little deeper in the os without beeing scared to maybe reset the cmos and resinstall the os 50 times before getting it right.
I learnt the most doing mistakes and i keep getting better :) have a nice one

I swear a crispy, well optimised windows will make you feel a 100% more in control in your game. When you experience close to no lag on a 240hz and top of the line peripherals you juste can't beleive what it would be an os fully tailored for gaming. And not this nonsensical monstruosity of an os windows has become trying to fit the world into a single os, beeing compatible to you bluetooth/5g microwave apple pay and at the same time running old 32 bit sausage factory sorting program with 20 incompatibilty issues and countless bugs. I hate it but linux hasn't come to a point where it's effortless to adapt to a new environmement/sofware logic plus there are financial arrangements between game launchers and MS because there is no way developper wouldn't simple enable compatibility of their anticheat software and linux, if so i would be gone for long. I'll give an in dept look to absolutly all W10 components and making a flawless stripped version for most games. Any contribution is appreciated as ntlite forum isn't really providing a public preset library

Consider installing classic shell as windows search is broke aswell (win+r still work fine)
Window Search and Search app are hungry for resources but at least Search app cannot be removed or disabled without breaking the search in file explorer. Until 1903 this was possible but from 1909 microsoft incorporated the infamous UWP Search app into file explorer as well.

One way to get around this would be to keep Search app and use StartIsBack with these options enabled:

This will prevent Search app from starting and running in the background but when you use search in file explorer the app will run momentarily during the search then it will close again :)

For me, removing components is not about increasing performance. In fact, I doubt there's much of a tangible difference in doing so unless a person is using old hardware. It's to remove major annoyances that have been baked into the OS, such as the Windows Store and many of the telemetry services that gather information for no benefit to the end user.

My hope for the future is that there will be more documentation for component removal and compatibility with other Windows features.

If the higher resource usage was due to useful features it would be acceptable but we know that most of Windows 10/11 is bloatware. Third party programs can do much more using much less resources, are much faster and more efficient (Everything by voidtools, StartIsBack, Open-Shell).

If a company offers better services for much less will you choose the most expensive and with worse services just for convenience? Nobody does this in real life but it strangely does when it comes to Windows/Microsoft.

Most Microsoft telemetry is anonymous if you don't use a Microsoft account. If you log in with any account be it Microsoft, Google, etc you are automatically agreeing to share your data as there is no free lunch and when you don't pay for something you are the product so if you don't like that better stop log in to the web :p

I only care about telemetry as this is an additional processing cost using cpu and ram and network bandwidth. About Store I agree this is annoying and invasive

like this turnoff search until needed bit?
That would be the main reason since everything else can be done with Open-Shell. But I like the look of StartIsBack too and the glyph icons. I don't really like the Open-Shell look and I don't really care about customizations. I know there are themes but none of them really appealed to me. What I liked the most was the one that imitates StartIsBack :p but doesn't have the glyph icons.

But I'm thinking about removing Search and start menu apps for good as that way StartIsBack wouldn't be necessary. and I could try to adapt to Open-Shell. After all the difference would be basically just aesthetic.

I enjoy the windows store. I use my computer not only for gaming but also for tv shows and movies. Windows store provides me with the apps I need for that as well as Dolby Atmos which cannot be installed without the store.

I also use Smplayer for my videos. Took some time to tweak it properly but now it's golden!

F33thy is a YouTube guy that goes into depth for input lag and the best settings for Windows 10-11. I would check him out since it might help you as well.

There is also a nice app I got online

It really great in disabling things that you may not need in a nice and easy to use interface. I even bought it on steam since it was super inexpensive and wanted to support the guy.

That's why videos that don't have the average fps (FPS AVG) and 1% low I don't even see them :p at least AVG FPS is necessary to get an idea as FPS is something that varies a lot and any difference can be within the error margin.

FPS count is pointless without knowing render quality. It also doesn't help if you keep upgrading CPUs & GPUs in between different videos.
That's because YouTube is all about pimping affliate links.

But in this case it's a comparison between OS builds. It is assumed that in both cases the same hardware and graphics quality are used. The absolute FPS values themselves don't have any meaning really but comparing these values between OS builds, OS versions, drivers versions etc I see as valid since the same conditions are kept by varying the software only.

But of course it is difficult to test both situations under the same conditions and there are many other variables that can interfere with the results, so this type of test has to be seen carefully and compared with other tests.

Multiplayer gameplay should never been used for comparison. Only single player or in game benchmarks.

Well remembered. IMPOSSIBLE for two gameplays to be identical or close in a multiplayer game. In a single player it's already difficult, I don't even know how these channels on youtube do to test games that don't have their own benchmark and leave the gameplay similar.

No doubt those gamers will have a f-ton of security stuff running which may be different to the stuff you run aswell as any additonal things like Start is Back blah blah blah. Isp's network usage at a particular time might also be an issue, do they use telephone copper cables or fibre optic cables? you know what i mean. I could go on.

Too many damn variables to get exact matches.
I swear gamers would sell their grandmothers for a few extra frames per second.

You just ignore everything on the internet. What is matter is hardware 99% , stable oc . And only then win10 optimization. And if hardware is decent win10 do not matter i guess.

Yes the most important is the hardware. I don't think that optimization on Windows helps to have more FPS, at most it can improve latency. But I think Windows goes into some priority mode when running a heavy task like a game and reserves most of the resources for that. However tweaks and optimizations can reduce RAM usage for example and help with OS responsiveness in general use, especially on weaker hardware.

Personally it not matter to me if stripped win10 helps on fps or not. I just like to have clean win10 and only apps i use.. probably just OCD thing

Anyways, so i was going to use gamer10 preset. But in his preset there is update steps, how can i remove those steps? I would use preset but without updates.thanks in advance

Windows 10(default) resource use is roughly 4 to 5 times higher than on windows 7 default. I find that totally unacceptable.
Someone explain this to me please.
