GamerOS Windows 10 & 11 DIY Preset

Yes, it's contradictory to remove Edge but keep Edge Updater.
I didn't mean it that way. Removing red components usually damages the system. Why is edge update marked in red? Will deleting it result in the loss of system functionality. I encountered a folder layout issue and I'm not sure if it's related to this component. Thank you in advance.

GAMEROS THREAD DELETION NEWS (JULY 31, 2024)
It should be noted what recently happened to this thread for posterity and to clarify confusions, because it has a ton of people watching it. This is the data as I've analyzed it so far, but anyone else with additional insight should feel free to add more.

Somewhere around July 26th, 2024, the original author of the GamerOS preset and thread (Txmmy) seemingly logged in at random and deleted numerous posts, including the first page of this thread, which contained information about the preset and attachments.

Priot to that, the author was mostly inactive, and their last major engagement was around January of 2023, when they were very disgruntled over some problems in competitive gaming, and that seems to have lead into this event where the GamerOS was deleted, presumably out of frustration. The only comment I've seen so far, is that the author edited their reply after post #1 to say, "poof" to signify the deletion was intentional.

THREAD SUGGESTIONS
There's many paths forward, but I think these are the top choices to pick from.

1) Have nuhi analyze GamerOS and merge it with built-in templates, explained in detail here (link).
2) Reload a saved copy of the first post, upload attachments there, then lock the thread and let it die off.
3) Have a new owner takeover the thread, providing support and updating the preset as needed.

I would be careful about making uninformed speculation.

Some members of the NTLite community will remember Txmmy as a mostly laid-back contributor, who created GamerOS for his personal benefit while playing CS:GO online at a competitive level. He was mostly annoyed at the perception that other players could be cheating, or whether his Windows setup was holding him back. So he worked on different presets for months, until he reached GamerOS 1.0.

Having tweaked it solely for his gaming setup, the first GamerOS wasn't universally useful for many other gamers. Taking in outside feedback, Txmmy arrived with GamerOS 2.0 or what we recognize as the current GamerOS template. This is the branch that took off when highlighted by Chris Titus' YouTube channel.

Recently, it has come to my attention that a new forum user communicated with Txmmy (outside of this thread). I don't know the exact details other than afterwards, as everyone can see, Txmmy expressed his frustration by purging his thread posts.

As a content creator, I can understand why someone can get tired of random users asking for direct help instead of using the public thread. Txmmy didn't ask for this attention, he shared what he believed to be his vision. Anyone can create and share their preset on this forum. A few contributors have, but most quickly lose interest in their work when they realize supporting new users requires a lot of patience & time.

I ask we respect Txmmy's privacy, and if he's decided to withdraw from this project then respect his decision to step away.

GamerOS template now has a life of its own, as Txmmy's legacy is the groundwork for many user's current presets.

1. NTLite won't be incorporating GamerOS as a template. nuhi's not a gamer, I wouldn't expect so considering how much time he spends on his own product. When you add something to the official product, you end up supporting it. That's not going to happen, considering the sheer volume of questions directed on this one subject.

NTLite's built-in Gaming template is a preset that nuhi is willing to support. He owns it.

2. MT_ was one of Txmmy's predecessors, by creating his own popular preset for the original W10 builds. But following the same story line, probably got tired of the attention and stepped away. The difference there is MT_ clearly asked that his thread be closed, and by that time, modern W10 releases were coming out.

3. I haven't decided on the next steps. But I would like to keep this thread alive, because closing it would fragment the NTLite community by splitting game-related questions into too many new threads. While nuhi's not involved in GamerOS, he understands and appreciates the influx of new users who are licensed customers.

The NTLite user base and its primary motivations have evolved over time.

When W7/8 was first introduced, patch management was hell and everyone needed a better tool to prepare images. When W10 arrived, everyone was obsessed about privacy and blocking telemetry. Now in the current era, most users are looking to debloat (for whatever reasons).

Finally, please give Txmmy his privacy. Even if he doesn't feel like discussing recent events, his legacy of being a major contributor and reaching so many end-users will be lasting.

w10 wins by speed and ease of building an image compared to w7/w8.1.
I still have 148 official patches for Windows XP saved to this day. There are only about 60 patches for Win7/8.1, which allows users to choose which patches to install and bypass telemetry patches. Win10 deprives users of their privacy and adds some unnecessary patches. If I didn't have ntlite, I wouldn't even know that Microsoft's built-in Pinyin input method has telemetry. These things are like snot that can't be shaken off.

Topic OFF

I did not see the explanation for the components indicated Placeholder for potential updates

If not explained, these are "new" components added by a Cumulative Update, otherwise NTL will not detect them (unless latest ISO, with the CU already integrated)
We did not know how to indicate it in the component's list, and so it was that

"Placeholders" are nuhi's dummy entries and you should simply ignore them. I believe they exist to track some component files which need to be protected during processing. There is no official explanation for why NTLite needs them, or whether they'll disappear in a future NTLite build.

And yes, it's off topic for GamerOS. Placeholders don't impact your game play.

That's not it ;)
Nuhi (weird to call him that) and I set up this (finally nuhi added it to NTL, of course) so I know what it's
And they won't go away until the ISO used has the integrated CU with these new component

Yeah, end of off topic

Since you take partial credit for it, I will assign you all future questions on Placeholders. ;)

Hello, I am fairly new to the forums and have read through the basic guides. Is there a Windows 11 23H2 preset that is available for GamerOS that I could take a look at?

The current preset applies to both W10 & 11. The only differences would be minor changes based on newer user features rolled out in later Windows releases. While you can trim some new components, they don't really affect the performance or overall image size.

Sounds good, thanks.
