Hello everybody,
this is Kai from Germany and I´m new with NTLite and these community.

Since 2 days I´m along with NTLite and have tried out several issues,, but most of them do not work.
- recognize vmware partiton and stops
- disk template not useable
- skip fast entry, update, login....
- supress data secure
- disable cortana (special setup requested....).
- added application will not be installed!!
- why I have to (re)load the image why I start NTLite again
- also I have to remount install.wim every time

For testing purpose actually I´m using NTLite free version 1.6.0.6122.

Regards
Kai

Hi Kai,

yes I got your emails.
Thank you for your feedback.
This tool is simply not made for you, I see your points and it could be made easier, but it's not.
Please don't take this as a smug comment, I think it would be best if you continue your search and skip this tool.

What kind of problem do you have with me or my mails?
It might be a really nice tool, but I have several questions and you as one of the developer should be thankful for all suggestions you can get.

Several issues could be found in the last hours.
And also the setup was completely loaded successfully.

But I ´m not able to confirm individual partition settings.

At least, I could not find any topics here about why my additional software will not be installed!!

Personal parts replied on the email.

Regarding the additional software question, I'll copy from one of our first emails:

If it doesn't work from first go, some additional info:

All post-setup installers need to be set with the silent switch, and have no prompts.

You can test the resulting script manually in command-line, best is from a virtual machine, and see which installer complained.

Go to elevated CMD and run:
C:\Windows\Setup\Scripts\setupcomplete.cmd

The installer which shows an error message or prompts something needs a different switch probably. Just make sure to skip those that were already installed with the stuck first attempt.

When the script is fully executed, it auto-deletes itself, so when retrying recopy the entire \Windows\Setup\ folder content from your ISO/USB '.\Sources\$OEM$\$$\Setup' folder.

Then if it's unclear which installer reports some error, edit the setupcomplete.cmd to remove '@echo off' line, then you'll see the command before it fails to know which it was.

Let me know how it goes.
I agree the debugging of switches could be improved, and one of the future goals is to have a mini execution tool which would nicely prompt what happened.
Currently it is executed during the time Windows shows no UI, not blaming Windows but this was not a priority so far.

If you can start with one installer, then please specify the link to the installer and paste the switch used if there is a problem with it.

Thanks.

That´s the point.... nothing happens, no interaction, no error messages, nothing. The only one it takes time, more than 4-5 hours until I have the login screen....

Depending on what is added, should not take more than a few minutes.
You can test the script as described above, it will show the issue.

Now it has been completed: tightvnc wants to open a file (security warning) and lync is missing a file. Any other packages could be installed silently.
How can is disable a package from installing without deleting?
How can I rename a listed package?
How can I add a screen to know what package will be installed at the moment?

If you don't want to delete the file from the source, you can remove the string in setupcomplete.cmd
If you don't want to remove the string from setupcomplete.cmd but don't want to process it, write rem at the left of the string

If you want to rename a package, right click on it and select properties, change the name and press ok or press F2 key and change the name
You can't add a screen to know packages being installed, windows setup hides it

I´m sorry, but I´m cannot find setupcomplete.cmd
So I´m not able to remove or rem any entries....

There are no properties on right click! Remember, I´m using the free edition....

For sure you can add a simple screen during the installation runs in background.
Seems to be that I have to create a batch for every package with includes a simple screen in the foreground.

Actually I tried out several images with windows 10, but anyone works pretty fine. Mostly during updates, 3GB, it interrupts.
Also any of my packages will be installed. I don´t know how to handle....
Only auto logon, user and computer name are correct!!

I´m sorry, but if there is no action, I will switch to winreducer ex100.
Within 1h a perfect running image was created....

Please, tell me how to do that and the step where it is processed.

If working with NTLite is hard for you, winreducer is a nightmare and most of the times, impossible.

I replied with simple basics and you got lost where no tools are needed, telling that winreducer is better and easier than NTLite looks like it comes from a spammer.

I´m not sure. but I thought so....

I don´t think so. Both tools are a bit different, but have the same goal.
Thanks for your "simple" basics, but they do not work. I´m really sorry.
Also I´m using the free edition, functionality is limited.
The main topic will be that the packages will not installed. Found the
setupcompleted.cmd, but why should I disable what does not work....?

Why you didn't replied to me with the instructions to "add a simple screen during the installation runs in background"?
That should come from an advanced user who knows where setupcomplete.cmd is located and how to use it.

When i started testing tools, winreducer become a crap while NTLite in it's free version has been good enough to work with.

Now i don't think winreducer is much different to the version i have tested (or attempted to try).

Here you will find people who will try to help but your behavior looks like someone who don't know at first and later, like someone who knows a lot about.

Usually I create an image from a ready installed system.
Actually I´m using NTLite only for private testing purpose....
And yes, I know a lot about and much more!

The main reason why I think, don´t using NTLite anymore is, that installation himself works.
But after the installation I will be asked if the computer will be present / reachable in the network.
Further the installation of the additional packages does not work.

I am also new here, this is my first posting in this forum and I am also from Germany. I like to apologise for the strange behaviour of Kai.

I don't know him personally but his attitude is very typical for a spoiled German kid which got something for free and feels the urge afterwards to brag around about not being able how to handle the present in his hand.

And this is of course not his (the kids) fault – he also has to insult the donator of the gift in order to get his "Selbstwertgefühl" back on track. I am pretty sure Kai will recognize his behaviour in a couple years when he is grown up, meets his first girl friend and is trying his first steps on his long way into the RL.

Having said that I look forward to contribute here and there to the forum. I am mainly a Mac user but found it fascinating how to tailor Windows with NTLite to my own personal need and will soon let you know about my experiences I made with LTSB and Parallels on a Mac.
