MS has removed the download link for Windows 7 Microsoft Security Essentials. If you installed a copy of the old client, it may have stopped downloading new security definitions after Feb 26, 2025.

There is a MS EasyFix for enabling the TLS 1.2 secure protocol, in order for existing W7 systems to connect with MS update servers.

Download the W7 client for System Center for Endpoint Protection (SCEP) as a direct replacement for MSE.

There's "Microsoft Endpoint Protection 2012" too
Code:
https://officecdn.microsoft.com/pr/MEP/EPPInstall.exe

sigcheck reports they share the same signing date and version number, but EPPInstall.exe is a newer file by 3 years.
I'm guessing a product rebrand?

Pretty much
Code:
SCEP:
SpyNet opt-in during setup
enable Server Management

EPP:
SpyNet opt-in by default
enable Firewall Management

EPP is mainly deployed with Windows Intune
