if I activate NTLite on another machine, do I use a backup of the previous machine's license to activate or activate only with serial does it create a new backup file for the last machine?

I don't know if you understand, but is each machine a different license backup file?

Each new machine, with a different hardware ID (CPU/mobo/network/boot disk), counts as an activation.

You have 5 activations per license, which you can use on 5 different PC's (or VM's) or the same system 5 times in a row if you keep replacing HW -- until all 5 activations are used. Licenses are server-based on HW ID, and don't need to be backed up.

Activations cannot be transferred, so plan ahead. Most users don't need to install on multiple PC's, unless they're using host refresh locally.

Portanto, toda vez que instalo na mesma máquina, não preciso restaurar o arquivo license.dat, basta usar a série se estiver online. Na verdade, vou ativar apenas em mais uma máquina. Obrigado!
What I was doing is restoring the License.dat and then putting the serial, every time I formatted the machine.

Formatting dosn't require a license activation.
But if you change hardware setup - ie. put a external SSD via usb a new license activation is needed.

I believe it's just counting the system disk (not external or option drives).

Believe me - been there with a usb SSD like Corsair GTX - spend 2 licenses plugged/ unplugged!

Save the settings.xml and license.dat of the last machine or VM you activated NTLite on, this contains the activation of all and you can use them after a clean install of Windows without having to go online or enter the serial. I did this with my desktop and a VM in VMware.

You're right as i use offline install of NTL - but about the license the upper problem is solved!
