I'm removing a lot of components, but before, Photos wouldn't stop working, and now this is happening

it works normally when formatted, it works for a day or even two, and then it simply closes, without giving any error message, it stays open for about 3 seconds, and then closes

Has anyone who has experienced this, know which component in question is causing this, probably due to being removed?

If it works after a clean install, it's probably not a component removal, because if it was then it would most likely be broken from the first time you reach the desktop. I have experienced a similar problem, where every default Microsoft app (including Photos) became broken and wouldn't launch anymore when I tried to start them. It ended up being the Winapp extension for CCleaner that was causing it. Is there anything else you're doing after the install that could potentially be causing the issue, such as tweaks, scripts, and other tools? Either way, always post your preset when asking for help.

I use this attached regedit,

and I add some programs after installation in the user phase:
vcredist 2005 to 2022 64x and 86x (all downloaded directly from the official Microsoft website), directx9web, realtek driver net, 7zip

machine phase: I just set wallpaper as background

Windows make default apps to open files.
To open a file with a specific app rightclick and Open With and use whatever program(APP) installed.

maybe I haven't explained what's going on very well, but basically it's as follows:

in the iso I set it up so that in the user phase it installs:
vcredist (2005 to the year 2022, 64bit and 86bit), directx9web, realtek driver net, 7zip , and also a wallpaper

when performing a clean installation of the system, with my iso created with ntlite, the “Photos” application works normally, for photos and videos, offers the option to edit and crop the video normally, and is also functional

after formatting, I perform a clean installation of drivers with nvclean, and chipset for amd, then I also perform my optimization, with several regedit adjustments to return the system completely to priority and performance, I configure core affinity, among many others

after performing the optimization, the system continues to run the photos application normally, with all its functions,
for example, today I've had the system for 1 day, and it bugged today, yesterday the pc was optimized, in the afternoon, and at night photos was still working normally, to edit videos, and today in the morning too,

and then, after a few hours off-line, I started the system normally, and what I'm reporting happened:

the photos application simply closes, instantly, about 2 seconds after opening, without displaying any error or failure on the screen, it simply closes.

the “movies and TV” application, I also made it available on iso, and it even works normally, without closing instantly.

Dependencies is crucial to make NTL to make working Windows installations - ie. for Photos.
Did you make sure to check following:
yes, it is available in the iso, as I reported, in the answer previously, even the movies and tv application I also made available, but this “bug” occurs, it simply starts to close, after some time, without displaying an error or execution failure, or lack of dll, nothing, it simply opens, passes 2 seconds, and closes

but as I said earlier, the movies and tv application still plays normally, but when trying to cut a video, it uses photos, which in this case, is “bugging” after 1 day of system, so to speak, I am not an expert in this, but I have been doing my own system for a while, and I perform several tests daily, including advanced ones, about removing components and etc, and as an old windows user, I like everything to be functional, and correct, especially, something basic in windows, as in this case, the functionality of the photos application

Would be helpfull with a preset.
You dont post a Windows version - just a problem.
The problem must be from your preset of NTL.
Besure remove personal info and any Windows keys.

this is my default, yes, I know that I perform several removals and configurations, and that easily any of them could be breaking this, but as Hellbovine said, the problem is probably not a removed component, and I particularly believe that it does not occur due to my optimization, if not, the bug would occur right after performing the optimization on the system, which is not the case, anyway, I described it to the maximum, any doubts can speak

everything is functional in the ISO, of course, it is a “slightly plucked” version, aimed at reducing system load, reducing latency, and others, I made many removals, but I always tested if it doesn't break something obvious, I always perform several tests with platforms, games, anticheaters, applications, Windows features, and basically everything I need to work is maintained, however, I am unfortunately facing this error with the photos application

I don't know if there are any open posts about “tweaking regedit for performance” (tweaks).

but in case there isn't, and it's in everyone's interest, and obviously not against the forum's policies, it's also something I'd love to discuss with people who also perform their own advanced tweaks on the system, always testing to really get the best results, identifying what can be really useful for optimizing the system or not.

You're removing photocodec - keep these and it should be working.

<c>photocodec 'Codec de Fotos'</c>
<c>photoviewer 'Visualizador de Fotos'</c>

The new 24H2 still seem to be realiable on the the good old photo viewer.

I will carry out tests, however as the system takes 1 day to crash or more, then Sunday or Monday, I will return with the answer of the result of our test, thank you very much for your attention my dear francis11 , you can leave that I will not fail to respond again if the problem is corrected

francis11
if you have anything to suggest, I'd love to hear from you, thanks in advance

a doubt, LZX compression, can generate loss of FPS in competitive games of high frame rate? CPU BOUND games

Have no idea - never gaming - it's crap keeping people occupied with no real life

Anyway, thanks for the help buddy, I'll get back to you with an answer, hopefully a positive one

I read through all your replies and there's some places I could see a potential culprit.

1) You mention that after running your post-setup optimization stuff, such as nvcleaner and regedits, the photos app still works. What I'm looking for here is to determine if the issue is tied to a reboot or shutdown. For example, say you run optimizations then play a game for a few hours and turn off the PC to go to work, then the next day you turn it on and photos is broken when you try to use it later that day. It would have broke the day before, if it was turned on again, since it was really the reboot that caused a tweak to take effect and break the photos app. It's possible that one of your post-setup items is the culprit too, but we'd need you to provide a complete list of programs and tweaks to analyze that any further.

2) The randomness could be tied to the background activity that's done after a clean install of Windows, when the Microsoft apps optimize themselves silently one day while you use the computer, then the photos app breaks afterwards. That's something that could be due to a component removal, because removals delete registry keys and files, so if the photos app tries to query something that's missing later, it could cause it to bug out. You can force the background optimization to see if it's the culprit by using a command (link) that I discuss in another reply. I have also seen that some apps are tied together, such as Paint 3D and WordPad, so the photos app could be breaking due to another app removal.

For your sidetopic of finding threads related to registry and performance tweaking, I'd recommend the Gaming Lounge.

unfortunately I return with bad news

even returning the components
<c>photocodec 'Photo Codec'</c>
<c>photoviewer 'Photo Viewer'</c>

still causes the bug after 1 day of use

I asked a friend to install the iso 3 days ago and see how it behaved,
He reported that it was also buggy after 1 day, and I asked him to perform the following test:

run the following command in powershell:
Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\*Photos*\AppXManifest.xml”}
$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage *Photos*).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest

This command reinstalls or patches the “Photos” application in Windows for all users

and in “application and features” it restored the “photos” application

and then it solved the problem, and after 2 days, the same “bug” came back

Hellbovine

Yesterday, for example, after performing all the optimization, I restarted the system several times while I was using it, and even after finishing the optimization, I restarted it about 4 or 5 times.

In the settings, I disabled the “fast startup” option, which should, in theory, make the system restart completely after being restarted, without the need to “turn it off and then on”, as far as I know...

I'm going to try a clean install with this same preset, where I won't perform any optimization, I'll just install windows and I won't even use it, I'll just leave it installed, and I'll come back the next day and see if the bug happened, and I'll check if the bug also occurs without performing the optimization.

Hellbovine

stopping to think about what you said, and “interdependence” of components, I had read a forum I believe from 2018 around here, where the user reported after restoring the “sticky notes”, the photo application returned to work normally, so I will test it too

I will carry out 2 tests:

1- installation with this current preset, without performing any optimization
2 - installation with this current preset, but restoring “sticky notes”

Just a note - did you kept Capture Service and Capture Picker which both is connected to Photo?

after several days of testing, I have some good news

as I said in my last comment, I had seen a post from 2018 on this forum, in which a user reported sticky notes as connected to photos

and Hellbovine commented on “application interdependence” I checked the installation with sticky notes, and now the photos application no longer crashes

the problem was not all my optimization, nor all my presets, but the interdependence with sticky notes, where even if we uninstall using the powershell command, the photos app still doesn't crash
Powershell.exe -command “& {Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.MicrosoftStickyNotes* | Remove-AppxPackage}

In fact, it took me this long because I was also testing removing the following:
<c>photocodec 'Photo Codec'</c>
<c>photoviewer 'Photo Viewer'</c>
and even with those removed, photos works normally

francis11 yes, because it's one of the things I leave available, as I use it a lot.
