Just curious - is it okay to do update Windows normally using Windows Update when there are a bunch of components removed?

Just wondering if maybe the Cumulative Updates will bring back files, or certain components over time. I know Feature Updates will of course bring those back.

Hi,

in essence yes, if you kept WU compatibility enabled, you can update, and I do. There was a huge engine update few months ago for that purpose.
On the other hand it is possible an update returns a piece of component, but I haven't noticed it so lately.
The extent to which it can be returned is not big and rare, just mentioning it for completeness. It is known exactly when and how, depends on the CU on CU updating the piece that was kept for WU compatibility.

In case of unwanted files or services returned, you can do a Host Refresh using the updated preconfigured ISO to reset the state without needing to reinstall all of the apps. I do that if I notice any weirdness, sometimes even full Windows can mess up during updates.
