Hi everybody! I've been trying to search for an answer to my issue but I think I don't know how to search for it.

I am trying to make a simple windows 11 home image without all the bloat and whatnot. However I still want to log using my Microsoft account (please don't judge me, lol!).

The way i went about this is to download the last ISO from MS, extract, open in Nlite and then use the privacy preset on "components". From there I just removed some more apps, but nothing crazy (eg: Xbox stuff, things i know i am not gonna but nothing hacky).

After this i boot it up and follow the setup wizard, but I always end up with the wizard trying to create a local account.

Can u guys please point me in the right direction please? thanks!

Short answer: There's never been a way to add MS or any AAD domain account in Unattended mode. What you can do is add a Local Account, and after installation, link that user with your MSA profile in Settings. This is probably done for security reasons.

As far as I understand I am not doing an unattended installation, Unattended mode is set to default on my preset. I have to go through every step...

I'd like the setup to ask me to log with my microsoft account instead of trying to create a local, just like the uncut install. Makes sense?

If you don't provide any user account details in Unattended, installation will go through the normal OOBE user setup screens -- which default to only allowing a MS Account. Whatever isn't specified in Unattended mode, Windows will force you to go through those screens manually.

You can completely or partially automate which steps you want:
- disk selection and partitioning
- image selection (on multi-edition ISO's)
- local user account creation
- privacy choices

Thanks for your reply. Like I said I am not trying to do an unattended install. So far the Images I've created ran me though the normal setup steps, but when it get to the account part, it asks me to create a local account.
Now I am trying everything again, but this time I've selected the privacy preset, removed some apps, click the reset button on the options tab and set unattended to disabled (eg. before it was technically on default).

Next time you have a problem, please attach your preset (after removing any user passwords or licenses). It's faster to read the preset than rely on remembering what you've changed. With a preset, someone can try replicating your image for testing.

After a lot of experimentation with this on my own custom Windows 11 image, I found that the Content Delivery Manager (under the System Apps category) is required in order to sign in with a Microsoft Account during Windows Setup. Try that?

This CDM dependency has been called out in several older threads.

nuhi, should there be an optional Compatibility mode for protecting MS Account setup features?
