What was ‘Clean update backup’ method used before ver. 1.6.2.6220?

According to the changelog, from ver 1.6.2.6220 forward ‘Clean update backup’ has splitted into modes (DISM, Compatible and Complete), so I wonder what was the mode used in previous versions?
