Why do we disable Windows Update?

Title. Why do you prefer to disable windows updates? Does it revert the tweaks or something?

There are two primary reasons for disabling or pausing updates:

1. You don't like unwanted feature changes pushed to Windows, and you're not running a LTSC version of Windows (where feature changes are not provided). You prefer your customized image to be untouched, even if that means skipping security or bug fixes.

2. Monthly Updates will try patching random features (from your point of view), and the update process restores some components you previously removed. MS isn't trying to punish you, but your removals happen to overlap things they want to update. In order to undo the restored components, you must run NTLite in Removal reinstalls mode to repeat your removals.

Some users don't like this tug of war. Once a component has been added to the Monthly Update for patching, it will always remain part of the update (as Cumulative updates are "cumulative"). Cleanup has to be done every time a new CU is installed.

One option is to disable WU and never take updates, or wait a while and then update when you feel like it.

Generally tweaks (or settings) don't get reverted or overwritten because of Monthly Updates.

Or sometimes, even with the correct option, the PC restarts after an update
Some people complained because they had started a task overnight, and the PC restarted
But this is probably quite rare

Thank you so much for your answers. I got one more problem.

I am using Gameros W11 preset. However, i can not update microsoft store apps like windows terminal etc. It says something happened on our end. How can I fix it?

Try removing this line from the NTLite preset XML file:
Code:
                <c>deliveryoptimization 'Delivery Optimization'</c>

I dont disable it, but set to notify only, my motto is the sysadmin should be in charge of software updates on the machine, not the software vendor. I typically never install updates when they released, instead I wait for problem reports. The latest 11 24H2 update has unconfirmed SSD breakage reports which Microsoft is yet to deny.
