Windows 11 Repair Setup Not Available

Hi,

I've built my custom ISO with minimal tweaks - just bypassing the installation hardware checks and installing Chrome. I have all dialogs (except sign in with MS account) showing during the install.

I did a clean install using a test VM and the installation completes fine. However I wanted to see if this ISO could be used for in-place repair scenarios allowing for retention of apps and user data. I tried mounting the ISO and runing setup.exe but it just went ahead and did a fresh install with no dialogs asking if I wanted to keep my apps and date.

Have I missed a step to enable this funtionality when building the ISO?

Thanks,
Steve

This is the screen I'm missing whe I run setup.exe from the mounted ISO within Windows. It does appear when I use the original MS ISO that I used NTLite on but not when run from the NTLite version:

If you have an autounattend.xml file in the ISO, maybe remove it
I've never tried leaving that file with a "in-place" installation

I removed the autoattend.xml and also the auto-save xml files and that made no difference. Oddly enough there still must be some NTLite tweaks present as it bypassed the TPM check (I've no TPM in VM). The setup asks for region, keyboard and then shows the disk partitions exactylas it would doing a wipe install ...

Perhaps there's a change in the boot.wim file, or maybe an option (script or otherwise) is modifying the default installation.

There is something in the NTLite modified boot.wimthat is causing the issue. When I copy the NTLite ISO to a folder and replace boot.wim with the MS boot.wim , I get the option for in-place upgrade (I have to bypass the TPM check with the /product server switch since the NTLite tweak is no longer present.)

Any idea why this is happening with the NTLite boot.wim?

I rebuild the ISO and installed on a fresh VM. Once initial setup was complete, I ran the already mounted ISO and it failed to give me in-place repair option. I did it this way as in-place repair to retain data must be same region of ISO.
I've attached my preset - thanks!
