Windows truncating the User's name

Just recently it seems Microsoft has really screwed the pooch.

I used to be able to enter a username and have that used as my local account name I.E C:\Users\Username but now Microsoft in its infinite wisdom seems to be truncating the user name down to C:\Users\Usern which is utterly ridiculous.

I had an image of Windows which I created with Macrium Reflect so I restored that and sure enough I have C:\Users\Username so at that point I did a windows refresh but it didn't just do a refresh is completely re installed windows from scratch and made it C:\Users\Usern again.

Is there any way I can create an ISO with NTLite that will let me set the local user name before Microsoft forces me to login to the online account and stomps all over it?

Be gentle... I'm a complete newb at this stuff.

When adding a MS Account as the user, your home folder will be the first five characters of the profile name. To avoid this, create a Local User and later associate this local account with your MSA.

You have two options:
1. Use the Unattended file to create a local account. After your first logon, associate this account with your MS identity.
2. Use the BypassRNO setting in W11, which allows you to skip the MSA requirement and make a local account. Again associate this user with your MS identity.

There are ways to rename your home folder on a live machine, but it's hit & miss because many registry entries and app configs already have the old path in them, and it's a pain to track down all those changes.

Hi thanks for the response, is there info somewhere on how to achieve this, as I said I am a complete newb when it comes to this stuff.

I'm surprised someone didn't already write a guide.

For option #1:
Open the Unattended page, Add local account on the toolbar.

For option #2:
Open the Settings page, System -> Local user account setup support (BypassRNO)
This is a licensed feature. If you have the free edition, search online for the BypassRNO workaround.

garlin Thanks,
I am trying option one, ill run it up on a VM first and see how it goes.
Method 1 worked fantastically thank you very much, I might even take a plug at a couple of other things and if I can pull them off I had better register because I would have had my use out of the software so fares fare.
