Rats. (I don't know if a reinstall of Dragon is gonna work. I have an alternate browser set as my default.)

I wonder if I can just copy my old iexpore into the right directory in Windows and fake out Dragon?

Give it a try. Some things just need X files availible, as if its a portable, some need things properley installed :(.

Other requirements Internet Explorer 9 or higher, or the current version of Chrome or Firefox, for online Help. Source and Product Support.

I would also try keeping IE but disabling it in Features.
 
Mine is Dragon 12. (Actually 12.5 after a patch.) It said I needed IE. But later I removed IE using Windows' Features and Dragon kept working. Sigh. Another half day to try to get this to work.
 
Sometimes installers are specific about a component. Sound Forge installer screams if .net3(X) isnt installed even if you have use latest clr, then tries to download it. If it cant, internet disconnected, installer fails. :( Luckily i only have 2 programs that have very specific requirements and install and run on a (modified)barebone w7. :) I would have a go at a captured wim with your required programs installed, but not activated.

I'll show my ignorance: What is a Captured .wim? (That sounds like a "knock-knock" joke.) Do I use Disk2vhd?
 
See this topic. Right, You install your chosen operating system, w7 or 10. Install your updates, any required .nets and c++ things. Make any System tweaks. Use the built in Administrators account. Run Sysprep to generalise and seal the install. Now connect that drive to your tech system and use DISM or GImageX to capture, effectively a snapshot of that install. You then save it as a wim file then replace the install wim in an extracted iso folder, load it into NTLite, make you changes. Apply and Save as per usual. All your updates, any required .nets, c++ etc will now be fully integrated(installed) on that image and not will show as Pending INstall. You could do it in a vm, but i would do it on a pc or laptop with only the c drive and install media drive installed, usb key or optical drive. You'll find GImageX on my Intereseting page. Use this guide at the eldergeek. :)

Some good news: I made NTLite build #53 with IE8 left in this time. Dragon is working again.

I was beginning to hypothesize that this was a DEP problem. Apparently not.

After I make a backup, I'll see if I cwn remove IE8 with Windows' Features. (I had removed IE before on my old Win7 and Dragon kept working.) If I can't do it via Features, I'll try via NTLite Live. I'll plan to report back later.
 
More good news: 1) I was able to use Windows' Features to "remove" IE8 and 2) Dragon still works. Cool.

I wanted IE8 out of the way while I let WSUS Offline install the latest batch of Security only KB's. Otherwise, WSUS Offline wants to install IE11. And I didn't want that.

Next, a backup and then NTLite Live to remove all of IE8 and see what Dragon does after that.

Are we having fun yet? :-) (Haven't gotten any work done for two weeks now. Gotta stop this and get back to life.)
 
Interestingly, as Kasual has noted, even though I used Windows' Features to 'remove' IE8, NTLite shows that IE8 is still installed. I might try removing it later today to see what happens to Dragon.
 
I have noticed that somethings uninstall if you untick them but ie is so threaded into windows i doubt it will be one of them.
 
I might be obsessing again. The WSUS Offline installer doesn't see IE8 on my system (says it's been Removed). So, except for some clever U.S..govt hacker who hooks vestiges of IE, I should be okay.

Brings up an interesting question: How is it that NTLite Live sees IE8 on my system but WSUS Offline does not?

THAT'S exactly why I removed IE8 initially. It's tentacles can't get in if it's not there in the first place.
 
Could be that ntlite looks at what is actually installed but wsuso just looks to see if it is active, i dunno, just guessing.
 
IE's component notes says it is needed by other programs. I would try a captured wim with dragon installed. Exhaust all possibilities 1st.

IM stuffed because many things need poxy .nets, i sympathise with ya :(.
