MS ending some types of updates

I read somewhere that MS were ending some types of updates, does that mean that individual updates(for 7 and 8.1) will switch to monthly CU's?
I dont mind CU's in principle providing MS dont put out bad un's that brick stuff 3 times a month, one SS and one CU are easier todeal with.

Win7 and 8.1 already have cumulative updates, aka monthly rollups.
