With the new law about age verification on the OS-level, they will just be encouraged to make the MSAccount even more mandatory.

51% possible. If that happens "windows in the cloud only" will be a big possibilty.
Expect windows minimal images just like on Linux, works just enough to get you online but useless for anything else, = monthly subscriptions.

Yeah, they may just use that as an opportunity/excuse to push it harder but that would contradict what they have just said.

I saw several discussions speculating that this *could* be a mix of the "Microslop hate campaign", but it also could have been influenced by the subsequent release of the "fairly cheap" Apple Macbook Neo. While Linux is scary for most people, for many switching to Mac seems like a more appealing and safer option. However, the cost of new hardware, especially Apple hardware, can be a barrier for many. An inexpensive Apple laptop may be indeed seen as a threat to Microslop.

Then, Microslop's insanely costly investments in AI apparently are not paying off.

However, the other possibility is that MS is just trying to placate people, pretending to pay attention, hoping our attention will get eventually diverted to something else.

We'll see.

I finally completed my last Windows 11 25H2 build last week and installed it on all my PCs. Everything works fine. So, now, it's time to sit on the fence and observe. I made a resolution not to build another one, not even tinker with anything OS related, Windows and Linux, for a full year, until January 2027. I need a break from this.

I uninstalled NTLite and VMWare and archived all my build files to avoid the temptation. Now, I'm gonna wait and see what develops, what Microslop really does, how they handle this mess and how Windows 11 26H2 turns up. At the same time, I'm watching the Linux space too: Linux 7 (the kernel) is coming this year with some big changes, Valve's Steam Machine and Steam Frame are coming too and NVIDIA is apparently hiring Linux devs to improve their Linux drivers.

Then there is the AI bubble question (and the resulting hardware pricing Armageddon). Will it burst and take the world economy with it? Will it gradually stabilize to some sane, manageable levels? Or, are we gonna suffer this nonsense until 2030 and beyond as some say? Will the PC DIY scene recover from the hardware pricing Armageddon"? I heard that many PC tech YouTubers' views dropped to below 30% since last year, due to fewer than 50%, or less, of people buying computers and computer parts.

Lots of questions.

It's really terrible time to be a PC enthusiast. Good luck to ya all!

Prices skyrocketing, Crucial exiting the consumer market(my go to for ssd's and memory), Pioneer exited the ODD market, LG exiting/ted the ODD market, ODD's getting rare. Computing in 2026 = FMLife.

Microslop pulls another update after widespread problems. Is this gonna be a regular thing now, I wonder? Monthly, I guess? One more reason not to bother with Windows Update. Or, at least delay WU, but for how long? There is something seriously wrong with that company.

I don't see any of those issues, please explain so I can fix? And which browser.
 
For example, the palette-colored font makes the page look like a blog from 25 years ago — only blinking text is missing. Some characters in the font also appear broken.

There is unnecessary empty space below it. Around 60% of the monitor is taken up by just 6 lines of text.

I also do not think expandable elements should open automatically. Users can still click them when they are interested.

The light gray text on a white background is hard to read.

The download page looks much better, except for the palette-colored font used in the "NTLite" word. The download boxes should have the same size as the boxes on the Features tab to keep the design consistent.

Every tab is centered, but the Docs tab starts directly at the left edge with no margin. All tabs should use the same centered content block. On the Docs tab, only the navigation bar should appear on the left side of that centered block, not at the very edge of the monitor.

Tested browsers: Chrome 134 on desktop and latest available on Google Play

So... Microslop's solutions to "fix Windows 11 performance" now include things like preloading Explorer to RAM and max turbo boosting all CPU cores to accelerate context menus, start menu, and opening of explorer windows and apps. They can't be fucking serious. That's what they're doing instead of fixing garbage code and removing bloat???

They also "removed" Copilot from some apps by removing its icons and renaming it to something else.

I was hoping for a split second that they were serious about fixing Windows 11, but I guess they're not.

I intend to hold on to my original resolution to stay on my current 25H2 build and wait until the end of 2026 before making any decisions, but I'm losing hope that Microslop will address the current users' grievances in meaningful ways. Lots of empty PR talk and very little actual action.

Meh the explorer and many other is based stuff worked fast in windows 98 on a much slower computer by today's standards. Code just needs to be cleaned up and optimized but there is no money in that so it's not done really anymore.
 
Still on windows 8.1 pro, ltsc2021 and debian 13.xx, there is no technical reason to use w11 at this time.
If and when that changes i will get out the turd polish and get to work.

Exactly, unfortunately, staying on older version of Windows is not a good solution for most because of software and driver compatibility. Same for switching to Linux: lack of quality desktop applications and poor hardware compatibility are still major problems and will remain so for the foreseeable future.
 
If you dont need the latest and "greatest(pile of drek)" OS and hardware you have much more freedom, if you do then you have my sympathies.
Pretty certain i could install my current w8.1 eol capture on my intel 12th gen inspiron laptop with acceptable caveats, no intel igpu driver, just the ms driver and it still works well as a digital audio source, foobar2000 --> topping d10s --> amp + speakers. Im not willing to try right now but i will give it a go soonish.

It depends what you do with your PCs. If your needs are that basic then sure. But some of us do more than web browsing and playing games with our computers. Also, being limited by old system, old hardware and drivers is far from "freedom".
 
Right now i can use w7 w8.1 w10 ltsc 1809 or 21h2 and w11(if i was so inclined) and linux, how is that not freedom?

OK, but what software do you use on those? I can even run XP if insisted on it, but what would I do with it? Just being able to install any OS is not "freedom" if there is software and hardware that you can't use.

Software applications, not the OS, is what matters to me. And there are se several applications I need, or simply like, that I can't use on Linux or Windows 8 or 7, some might work on 10, with caveats and running under wine doesn't count.

So yeah, agree to disagree and move on.
