Please tell me how to activate only the top-level items in a parent-child category structure

Good for me
You forgot something

Now, if you want to delete only this component, it is not possible, without deleting the "child" components
But it's logical, so I don't think that's it

So, ultimately, in order to retain only the Enhanced Video Renderer (EVR) feature, is the only option to disable other components via services or the registry without deleting them? I’ve heard that unchecking the box results in the deletion of the related components.

You can keep Enhanced Video Renderer (EVR) and remove (uncheck) all other components (child components, below Enhanced Video Renderer (EVR)) without problem

As on my screen

With a payed version of NTLite.
In the free version every component NOT removable is blue.

Each component is single, but belongs to a main component, as indicated e.g. Enhanced Video Renderer (EVR).
So to keep only the main component, uncheck subcomponents.
Some of these may then be "locked" due to entries in the Compatilbility Tab - this can be seen on the right for the component in the "Extra info" column, why they are locked.
If you remove a component, NTL also removes related services and registry keys.
No "blue" component of the Free version, that's good :)
Right - that's funny ;) Don't know what came over me beside all the cracked versions out there.....NOT working as expected!
