I just updated an older version of Win8.1 Pro using NTLite Live. I installed 17 new updates. NTLite skipped 4 of them, saying that they were no longer applicable to my system. One was for Defender. One was for DDA (?). One was a fix for a hotfix. The last had to do with Work Folders.
When I check Task Scheduler, SetSQMTask is not there.
So that leaves me with a few possible conclusions:
1) It could be that Microsoft tries to installed SetSQMTask in fresh installs of Win8.1. In my case here, this was not a fresh install, and maybe a component removal or a later Feature Removal (IE11) prevented an Update from installing SetSQMTask.
2) It could be that one of the skipped updates would have installed SetSQMTask.
3) It could be that I'm totally wrong and Microsoft is not sneaking in SetSQMTask.
If the last is the case, then I don't know where SetSQMTask came from.
Will have to see what PhsMu says.
