Rebooting several times in Audit can be expected
15 reboots so far, prolly 17 by the EOL day. All updates checked for the regular Pro, same as for EI Pro. Just got rename and edit the comand files.
Install on the laptop, update n sysprep then do a 2nd install to capture from, wont have to build up the amd system.

Is "2023-06 Servicing Stack Update for Windows Embedded 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB5027574)" the correct SS for embedded_8.1_industry_pro_with_update_x64 and does it include the latest update agent because i want to offline scan with WUMT+wsusscn2.cab?

Been having problems installing windows 7 onto an old(but NOS when purchased a year ago) ThinkPad x270(with nvme ssd) that came with w10 pro 17763.xxx from the factory, possibly due to PEBKAC. User manual and driver support says it is w7 and w8.1 capable. Cant install w7 on it but w8.1 ei pro(might have been regular Pro) installs fine from the untouched ms iso burnt to dvd and from a usb optical drive.

What with the state of pc hardware and software now is a good time to remind people that windows 8.1 exists and it is a perfectly good alternative to windows 7 especially if installing w7 on some hardware is problematical to impossible.

For later HW, vendors stopped writing W7 drivers and skipped ahead to W8. Though a fair number of W8 drivers have been back-ported to W7, by users like canonkong on the Win-RAID forum. Always check there.

Windows 8.1 Pro installed and updated(latest WHD list + W8.1UI) on ThinkPad x270 - this is more like it, proper operating system.
Now to do it all again and get a good capture this time.

And i see users having problems using modded drivers, why mess around when w8.1 installs right out of the box with no messing around?
Its a good OS and once i fiddled with a theme it looks modern like w10(i like the flat metro style) and is as easy to tweak as w7 and once its tweaked its resources use is on a par with w7.

Current updated captured wim(using a custom enhanced wimscript.ini file) the new wim is only around 100MB larger than the original, will fit on a single layer dvd disc(nero9 reports 4.3GB is usable once formatted) and i got room for display and audio drivers outside of the wim.

Target machine is a Lenovo ThinkPad X270 Intel 6th Gen machine that has factory w7 and w8.1 support with all required drivers.
