yes, it can do that, even drive a 4K@30Hz tv (pretty sure it could do a 60Hz, but don't have one to check).
 
Just checked on a fresh but not updated 8.1 Embedded Industry Pro U3 install, using my barebone services and scheduled tasks file, Handles Threads Processes - 5467 - 321 - 22, way below a fettled and kludged LTSC. New tweak pack in progress, this will take some time.

What's the difference between embedded and 'normal' pro.

Also thunderbolt drivers for Windows 8.1 are non existent so I now need Ltsc for one machine, at least. T.T
 
PhsMu Embedded Pro has Store but not the store apps, its like LTSB/C in that respect. Apart from that it runs just like normal Pro, no problems with drivers or installing software. Whether you can run a certain OS will depend on your software and hardware requirements. At least you only need 1 win 10 machine. Lenovo and Dell have 8.1 thunderbolt drivers or have a look around and ask at win-raid.

Thanks for the clarification on the windows thing.

As for drivers, well, Shiny new machine, it has Some very specific Realtek Drivers for audio, Nvidia Thunderbolt, and Alienware command center. Everything else I've found the drivers for windows 8.1
 
It has none of the schenanigans of using a server os as a regular os. You got one of them awkward machines. ask around the forums, you may get lucky.

There is an update that needs to be avoided, me n pmikep discussed it, this fred i think, near the front.
 
These are the minimal numbers i can get after more tweaking 8.1, i wont get much lower than these. These numbers dont happen all at once but taken over a period of time. System has 8GB ram with 128mb for the igpu. Handles, Threads, Processes(task manager running), Commit (MB), Physical. 4287 - 164 - 19(18) - 390/8064 - 5%
If i can manage to get better numbers then great but as it stands i am really happy with that lot.

The rest of the other tweaks are hoggers and loggers, things to stop windows writing tons on uneeded stuff to hdd/ssd(that will keep ultraform happy ). A hdd will have more time to do the stuff you want so it should speed things up a bit.

I hate having to relearn stuff. :confused:

When I have time I'll take a closer look at these tweaks. I need to adapt to my use because I use internet in Windows.

I am having problems with NTLite and 8.1 the nvidia driver reports problems and gets an exclamation mark. In VM I have no problems. It is a difficult problem to test because only in real machine and honestly I am already tired of debugging NTLite every hour is a different problem. Unfortunately NTLite and most component removal programs only work well on Windows 10.

If I want to use 8.1 I will have to spend more time and only tweaks or remove content on my own by creating my own scripts using DISM or using WinToolkit as these are almost official ways to remove packages and components.
 
The only tweaks i suggest you avoid is the services because they are for airgapping, the rest should be ok. The tasks file should be ok, pmikep uses it(i think) so he would be able to to say for certain its ok, i use it on online machines without a problem. He knows more than me :).There are a lot of tweaks that stop the hogging logging and unnecessary disc writing so you wont see those numbers but you will have a well behaved 8.1.

Dont use the current tweak pack as its going to be replaced fairly soon. As always test and take whatever you need. :)

Last time i used WTK NTLite was reporting stuff that wtk should have removed plus its gui is all over the place, nuhi knows how to write a gui. I gave up using wtk when nuhi came back into the fold :)

Yes WinToolkit leaves a lot behind without removing. This uses a method similar to removing with DISM. It's actually DISM (and microsoft tools) that doesn't remove everything from a package.
 
WTK is a waste of my time. Ive noticed a lot of leftovers with dism on its own or gui tools. To assemble a package to know what files need to be removed then go in and remove all those leftovers takes a hell of a time, then theres the registry to search through, it takes a bloody long time for a few components. Thats why i never relied on msmg. Besides, nuhi is the only one who gives me the removals i want, msmg and wtk dont and prolly never will.
 
I think I've mentioned this before here, but if not, I have removed something (probably a microsoft USB driver) in my Win8.1 build that prevents Win32 Disk Imager from working.

If it's not a removal (I expect that the program needs to get down near the kernel level to work.), then it could be full time DEP (AlwaysOn) or some other security tweak that I have made to my OS.
 
AeonX copy and paste your post from mdl about 8.1 Embedded Industry Enterprise being the better choice than Pro if you want to add language packs please :)
 
Clanger I don't think I was very clear with my words. In Enterprise language packs are offered by Windows Update but not in Pro but there is another way to add them I tried a little while ago:

Seeing as a lot of people use LP's and WU then that may be a deciding factor for them.
 
Im seeing 8.1 mentioned here a bit more and quite a lot at the other place so the more people that know these little things the better :)
