Pretty certain i could install my current w8.1 eol capture on my intel 12th gen inspiron laptop with acceptable caveats, no intel igpu driver, just the ms driver and it still works well as a digital audio source, foobar2000 --> topping d10s --> amp + speakers. Im not willing to try right now but i will give it a go soonish.

Technically you can install a modern CPU on even 98 if you wanted but unfortunately my computer needs a more modern OS just do to the facts of my programs and that's it.

My computer is a jack of all trades. Has to do home media,work,gaming, and may other things. If one of those things are missing then the os is useless to me
 
This is a very long shot here and completely unrelated but for a long time I have been looking for ddr3 3200 trident ram. Very rare but I love older ram and having fun with it.

I am wanting to build a computer parts (display) on my wall for when I retire my system I have loved this system and it has given me years of life on computing being used for over 10 years.

If anyone knows anyone that carries these sticks please let me know. I have looked everywhere but to no avail.

Says ddr3 then ddr4 below. It doesn't have the appearance of ddr3 as well. Pretty sure that is ddr4. Also the voltage is all off. Ddr3 sticks at that speed ran at 1.65v

I'd laugh... if I had any decent options, so no... it makes me sad. But I think Microslop is too far gone at this point and there is no way things will turn around for Windows.
 
Unfortunately not.

It's a rotten cesspit, full of nonsense, that don't belong in any Windows OS. The underlying 'system' is worse, a broken mess, running all sorts of nasties, some we know about, some we don't. Crossdevice crap being the latest example, of uneeded crap running in background, with no way for the user to stop it.

I run Linux on my main system, and Windows 11 LTSC, heavily debloated, on my gaming only system, locked down afterwards, and solely used for gaming only.

This is the way I live with it, and I suspect most will, as MS are too heavily invested in AI now, that things are only going to get worse for the Windows OS going forward.

Windows as we once knew it, is long dead.

Yeah, I'm inching closer to realization that Windows is lost. Sad. End of an era. I'll wait until the end of the year, as I originally planned, before I decide anything. It sucks.

But... AI is coming to Linux too. Ubuntu will have AI agents, you can talk to, in the next release. Fedora is likely to follow. I guess it won't be as atrocious as Windows and probably easier to remove but there is no escape from this pseudo-AI nonsense.

It's not just Windows, as we once knew, that is dead... The entire world is changing quickly and irreversibly for the worst too. Enshittification is killing almost everything. I still hope this AI psychosis will cool off eventually, but maybe not.

You don't ATM, but it will be shoved full in your face, and down your neck from now on, that you will believe it's actually necessary.

In 1-2 years time, it will be, 'it hasn't got AI, so I'm not buying it' ;)

WindowsAI13 Ultimate, installs itself, after 'it' selects the hardware you will run, and not you :)

Blocking updates?, I can't allow you to do that Dave! My system detects that NTLite is not allowed Dave, you must follow procedure Dave, and I'm rebooting/resetting system to how you must use it Dave. Please don't have me do this again Dave.

This is the exact reason as to why we have Ntlite, allows us users to make windows as close as possible to what we want.
